OKTOBERFEST 2019

OKTOBERFEST 2019

Oktoberfest is considered one of the largest folk festivals in the world. It is visited annually by about six million people who come to Munich from all the German states and from other countries. The official time when Oktoberfest takes place is from mid-September to early October. In 2019, Oktoberfest will be held from September 21 to October 6, the traditional location is the city center, in the Theresienwiese meadow - next to the main train station. The duration of the event is about 16 days. Oktoberfest is engaged in the administration of the city of Munich.

All Munich breweries are represented at Oktoberfest with their tents: Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu, Augustiner-Bräu, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu and Löwenbräu. According to the rules of the Oktoberfest, only Munich beers brewed in accordance with Munich beer purity law of 1487 and the German beer purity law of 1516 can be poured at the festival.

The 10,000-seat Hofbräuhaus tent is the largest beer tent at Oktoberfest (6,518 seats and 1,000 standing seats inside, also 3,022 additional seats in the garden)[27]. Since 1980 it has been run by the Steinberg family. During this time the tent has undergone significant structural changes. Today the Hofbräu tent, for example, uses 12 quintals of hop vines as decoration. The tent covers an area of 7,000 square meters. During the two weeks of the festival 550000 liters of beer are drunk there, 700000 chickens, 5500 pigs and 8500 servings of pork sausages are eaten[27]. In 2005 the tent was slightly enlarged and a completely new facade was made.

It is the worldwide fame of the Hofbräuhaus beer tent that is the reason why the Hofbräu tent is today the most popular beer tent with tourists and celebrities.

Hofbräu Oktoberfest is a bottom-fermented, full-flavored beer whose subtle hoppy aroma fits the mood of Oktoberfest perfectly.
